Choosing a class

Which class should I book?

Level 1

Level 1 is where most people start. It is for beginner students with no or little experience in yoga. The basic postures in Iyengar yoga give you the fundamentals to go further, and you learn how to manage your limitations and how to use props where needed to help you into a pose.

All levels mornings

The all levels classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings take beginners too. Classes are kept to a maximum of 10 people, so the teacher can adjust the class to the people in the room.

A private class

If you would rather not start in a group, a private class is one on one and tailored to you. Call Susan to arrange one.

What to do

  • We are a fully equipped studio. Mats, blankets, blocks, belts and every other prop are here for you to use, so you do not need to bring anything. You are welcome to bring your own mat if you would rather.
  • Wear comfortable, easy stretch clothes and be sure to have clean feet.
  • Avoid eating for at least one hour before class.
  • Water is not drunk during class, so please leave your water bottle with your bag and shoes.
  • Arrive a few minutes early for your first class, so Susan can ask about any injuries or conditions before you start.

Common questions

I have never done yoga. Where do I start?

Call Susan on 0404 785 052 first and she will put you in the right class. Level 1 is for beginners with little or no experience, and it is designed for anyone regardless of age or condition. Iyengar yoga suits all ages and all sorts of bodies; you do not need to be flexible to begin.

If you would rather not start in a group, a private class is one on one and tailored to you.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable, easy stretch clothes and be sure to have clean feet. Everything else is here: mats, blankets, blocks, belts and every other prop are at the studio for you to use. You are welcome to bring your own mat if you would rather.

Avoid eating for at least one hour before class. Water is not drunk during class, so please leave your water bottle with your bag and shoes.

Can I join a class from home?

Classes are taught in person at the studio, which is how Susan prefers to teach them. A few students who live interstate join by Zoom instead. If you cannot get to Kewarra Beach, call Susan and she will tell you whether that works for the class you want.

I have an injury. Can I still come?

Usually, yes. The Iyengar certification process is one of the most comprehensive in the industry, and the training it provides enables our teachers to work with students of all levels, and especially those with injuries. Tell Susan about the injury when you call, so the class can be adjusted for you and props used where they help.

Do class passes expire?

No. A five or ten class pass has no expiry date, so use it whenever you can get to class. Passes are for you and cannot be transferred to another person.
