January 2027, dates to be confirmed

Five week beginners course

January 2027, at the Kewarra Beach studio

A five week course for people who have never done yoga, taken by Susan in small groups at the Kewarra Beach studio. Five weeks in the same room with the same people is a gentler way in than dropping into a class on your own.

Dates are being set now. Call or email Susan to be told first when they are.

Who it is for. Complete beginners. No experience of yoga needed, and no particular fitness.

With Susan Stackhouse, at 27 Poolwood Rd, Kewarra Beach QLD 4879.

Be told when the dates are set

Call Susan or send an email and she will let you know as soon as the January dates are confirmed.

Retreats

Retreats on the northern beaches

Our last retreat, a three day backbend and pranayama intensive at the Kewarra Beach studio in August 2026, filled. The next one will be announced here. Call or email Susan to hear about it first.

A retreat runs over a long weekend, with sessions of asana and pranayama each morning and afternoon. Each session builds asanas and breathing techniques following the classical Iyengar style of sequencing, through standing poses, forward bends and twists, backbends, inversions and pranayama, and focuses on particular aspects of a pose or breath and the way the body creates structure, building your ability to observe the body and mind deeply.

Local students may attend single sessions, a half day, or one or two days, space permitting.

Backbend and pranayama intensive

21 to 23 August 2026. Kewarra Beach, Cairns

A three day intensive on the northern beaches of Cairns at the Kewarra Beach studio, focused on building backbend asanas and the support they provide for pranayama in the Iyengar hatha yoga tradition.

Backbends are an important practice. They strengthen the spine and internal organs, counter the forward bending of daily life, and bring joy and vitality into the body and mind.

Lengthening the spine and opening the chest is a primary focus, working to feed the organic body and the brain, as well as drawing on the breath as a source for life. Pranayama is most effective when the chest and mind have been opened through the work of backbends and inversions. Standing poses, forward bends and twists play a significant role in well considered sequencing.
